ASEAN IP Offices recently enhanced their cooperation with IP service providers Patsnap, Questel and WIPS through a landmark deal. The agreement will facilitate the sharing of select ASEAN IP data from Member States to the IP service providers in exchange for access to IP management software, AI-assisted search tools and IP strategy assistance.

The ASEAN Patent Examination Co-operation Plus (ASPEC+) programme is officially launched on 6 April 2026 and builds upon the established ASPEC framework to deliver more closely harmonised patent reports and committed timelines to patent applicants.

ASEAN has adopted the ASEAN Intellectual Property Rights Action Plan 2026–2030 (AIPRAP 2026- 2030) as its strategic roadmap to strengthen intellectual property (IP) systems and harness IP as a key enabler of innovation, enterprise, and inclusive growth in the region.

The ASEAN Patent Examination Co-operation (ASPEC) programme is undergoing changes, with PCT-ASPEC becoming a permanent feature whilst ASPEC AIM will be discontinued. ASPEC enhancements will be launched in 2026.
